Truth & Reality

What is truth? People have been asking this question for centuries. In fact, Pilate asked Jesus this very question over two thousand years ago (John 18:38). The answer to this intriguing question is quite simple: statements that are true correspond to reality. This raises another question: what is reality? The answer to this question is uncomplicated as well: reality is the way things are. I am committed to truth. In fact, I have said that I am more committed to truth than I am to Christianity. However, that is why I am a hard-core Christian; because I sincerely believe Christianity is true! That is to say, I believe the proposition, “God raised Jesus from the dead,” corresponds to reality. If the above proposition is true there are two essential “ingredients” that must be true as well: 1- God must exist, and 2- the resurrection of Jesus must be a real historical event. Now, I believe in the existence of God and the resurrection of Jesus; however, I do not believe these propositions via “blind faith.” I affirm these statements because of reason and evidence. I am committed to demonstrating and defending truth to all people because I sincerely love all people. I examine all the arguments for and against the proposition, “God raised Jesus from the dead,” as well as other peripheral but related issues. Alvin Plantinga has noted that there are over a couple dozen arguments logically proving that God exists, and many today do not realize that based on the historical method alone (without even touching the Gospels), we can conclude with high degrees of historical certainty that Jesus did, in fact, rise from the dead. William Lane Craig refers to all of these arguments together as the “cumulative case” for Christianity. Thus, we have evidence for the truth of “Mere Christianity” (as C.S. Lewis called it); that is to say, we have evidence that the proposition, “God raised Jesus from the dead,” is true!
